Uranium Workers’ Day

February 27, 2017 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Seeking Organizational Co-Sponsors for Uranium Workers’ Day

The Multicultural Alliance for a Safe Environment is sponsoring a Uranium Workers’ Day on Feb 27 at the State Capital. The focus of the day is to call attention to the environmental in-justice faced by hundreds of New Mexicans and Native Americans who worked in the uranium industry and have been denied compensation by the Federal Government.

We have a memorial that directs the NM Congressional Delegation to provide leadership to ensure passage of amendments to the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA.) The amendments will add the uranium workers, and downwinders near the Trinity Site in NM, along with thousands of others who have been harmed due to nuclear weapons production and commercial nuclear energy to the original RECA.

We will hold a press conference in the Rotunda on Feb 27 at 12 pm with speakers from impacted communities and invited officials and your are encouraged to join us. We have reserved tables in the East Hall as well. Please contact me if you would like to have a table. We are anticipating over 100 former uranium workers and downwinders to attend the event.

We are seeking co-sponsors for Uranium Worker’s Day. We will use your organization’s name in outreach materials and on the day of the event.
