Dear Colleagues:
The NM Legislative session has begun and we are already working on legislative priorities, and preparing for the NM Food and Farms Day and NM School Nutrition Day events on February 20th.
As the start of the legislative session we are already working on food and farming priorities. Before our policy makers will take up any substantive issues they are focused on balancing the budget.
Our NM Grown Fresh Fruits and Vegetables for School Meals legislation is HB 208, sponsored by Representative Jimmie Hall and Speaker of the House Brian Egolf. It has been assigned to the House Agriculture and Water Committee and likely will be on the agenda next week (Tuesday or Thursday mornings at 8:30am). We’ll follow up by Friday with more details. We will also have a summary and follow up from last week’s NM Food and Agriculture Policy Council’s meeting. We have been working on the slate of priorities.
In addition, mark your calendar for our next NM Food and Agriculture Policy Council Meeting, Tuesday, February 7th, 10 – 12 noon (location TBA – hopefully at the state Capitol).
We’ll keep you posted with updates and events.
Best,
Pam Roy
