Cultural Fusion Fashion Celebration
Press release
Albuquerque, NM, January 15th, 2017, 2pm — The NM Women’s Global Pathways invites the community to celebrate cultural diversity in fashion with us, at the Cultural Fusion Fashion Celebration on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. We introduce to you a showcase of our new multi-cultural clothing, created by our refugee and immigrant artisans, as well as local designers. This charity event will be hosted at Albuquerque Museum located at 2000 Mountain Rd NW 87104. We will enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, world music, multi-cultural dance performances, live art and a fashion showcase of beautifully, hand-crafted designs created by our local artisans and volunteers. Also, there will be a massage therapist giving free massages during the event!
The New Mexico Women’s Global Pathways (NMWGP), founded in 2009, by African and Asian women is a grassroots, volunteer-driven non profit organization that gives local refugee, immigrant and low-income vulnerable women, girls and their families a chance to build dignified lives, self-worth and above all a livelihood to transform themselves and our community. We do this by teaching essential skills such as ESL, gardening, and other strengthened life skills, as well as crafts like sewing, crochet and beading and give the artisans opportunities to sell their hand-made crafts. This is not a temporary fix type of organization. Our hope is to move these women from dependency to self-reliance. We strive to ensure that our families have opportunities for a successful transition from government aid to being self reliant and productive members of their respective communities.
NMWGP is focused on growing our education, outreach and arts programs, and our vision is to offer our artisans a monthly stipend to continue creating beautiful, traditionally inspired clothing and accessories. We aim to have our own physical and online stores to sell our products to the public by Summer of 2017. Some of our immediate needs include 4 new computers and Rosetta Stone software to teach ESL and basic computer skills, as well as a new 15-passenger van and money to hire a part-time driver to aid in transportation to and from our center, for some of our women who cannot navigate the bus system due to disabilities, illnesses and other issues.
