SUMMARY:Trinity Downwinders 2nd Annual Benefit
DESCRIPTION:Trinity Downwinders 2nd Annual Benefit \nSunday\, March 17\, 2019\n1 pm – 5 pm\nNational Hispanic Cultural Center\n1701 4th St SW\nAlbuquerque NM 87102 \nTrinity Downwinders 2nd Annual Benefit is being held on Sunday\, March 17\, 2019 to raise funds for members of the Tularosa Basin Downwinders Consortium (TBDC) to travel to Washington\, DC for further Congressional Hearings. There was a Senate Judiciary Committee Hearing on June 27\, 2018 which was attended by over 12 members of the TBDC. Members of the TBDC are preparing to travel to Washington\, DC for hearings on expanding the Radiation Exposure Compensation Act (RECA) to include the people of New Mexico. Members will testify before Congress on the negative health effects suffered by the people of New Mexico due to the over exposure to radiation after the July 16\, 1945\, nuclear detonation (atomic bomb). Many people living in and around the Trinity Test Site (150 mile radius) have suffered and continue to suffer with health problems since the time of the test. \nRECA was passed in 1990 by the US Government to provide health care coverage and compensation to downwinders from other parts of the country but has never included the people of New Mexico. The fund has paid out over 2.3 Billion Dollars in reparations to downwinders in parts of Nevada\, Utah\, Idaho\, Arizona and Colorado but never to New Mexico downwinders. It also provides the best health care coverage available with no limits\, deductibles\, co-payments\, etc. \nThe TBDC has the full support of the New Mexico Congressional delegation. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich are co-sponsors of the bill to Amend RECA to include the people of New Mexico. Representative Ben Ray Lujan is the primary sponsor on the House side and both bills have bi-partisan support in the US Congress. Newly elected Governor Michelle Lujan-Grisham is also in support of the bills to Amend RECA. \nThe Benefit will feature local Musicians:\nNew Mexico’s 2018 Hall of Fame recipient\nFranc Chewiwie & the Latin Jazz AllStars\,\nPaul Pino & The Tone Daddies\nand Nosotros \nTickets: $20/person\, $35/couple.\nTickets can be purchased at door – Cash/Checks only.\nConcerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety (CCNS) is the fiscal nonprofit agent for the TBDC (Tax Deductible).\nChecks payable to CCNS \nSponsorships Available\nFor information on Benefit call or email: 505-235-3427 / 505-897-6787 tcordova@queston.net \nFor more information about the TBDC – go to www.trinitydownwinders.com

SUMMARY:No Small Matter - Free film screening in Santa Fe\, NM
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to be hosting a special event and film screening for the film No Small Matter\, the first feature documentary to explore the most overlooked\, underestimated\, and powerful force for good in America today: early childhood education. \nThrough poignant stories and surprising humor\, the film lays out the overwhelming evidence for the importance of the first five years\, and reveals how our failure to act on that evidence has resulted in an everyday crisis for American families\, and a slow-motion catastrophe for the country. \nNo Small Matter is built from stories of real children\, families\, and teachers\, illustrating the impact of high-quality early childhood experiences. We meet parents who are struggling to do their best for their kids\, incredible teachers who model what early childhood classrooms should and could be like\, and children learning and developing in real time. These positive\, hopeful stories serve as motivational tools in both the film and the No Small Matter campaign: Change is necessary\, critical\, and attainable if we put our minds to it. \nWe hope you can join us for this important event: \nDATE: Weds February 27\, 2019 \nTIME: 6:00pm Doors open/Reception 6:30pm No Small Matter screening 7:15pm Panel discussion \nLOCATION: James A. Little Theater\, 1060 Cerrillos Rd\, Santa Fe \nTICKETS: FREE but please RSVP here \nTRAILER: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shm-KRh4LFg&feature=youtu.be \nPlease visit the event’s facebook page to learn more \nSigned Language Interpretation will be available. \nIt will be a magical event with New Mexico teachers and leaders sharing their thoughts on high quality\, affordable early childhood care and education. Please join us for this exciting opportunity to galvanize our community around this issue. \nThis event is sponsored by the Santa Fe Baby Fund\, Early Learning New Mexico and the New Mexico Early Childhood Development Partnership
