Mission Statement

Health Matters New Mexico (HMNM) advocates for land use, social, and economic policies that will create healthy neighborhoods and resolve the disproportionate environmental burdens on communities of color and economically vulnerable communities of central New Mexico.

Bernalillo County (Health Matters New Mexico):

  • Educates policy makers and communities about the influence of neighborhood conditions on health
  • Offers information to promote policy change for healthy neighborhoods
  • Evaluates the consequences of policies, projects and plans and gives that information to policy makers so they can use it to make wise decisions for the community
  • Advocates for policies that lessen the poor health outcomes experienced by members of our communities as a consequence of stress from environmental and social conditions
